85601 Design Interventions: Business Innovation

Designers don't have to wait for clients to walk through the door, but can instead use their design skills to develop new businesses. In-house designers can also take on managerial roles creating new directions for companies. This subject explores the fields of design management, management theory, innovation and leadership to give students contexts for designing entrepreneurially. Students look at case studies of 'disruptive' or new market creating designs, and organisational changes needed to sustain these culture-shifters. The subject centres around interdisciplinary collaborations through which students identify a new market potential, and then, in consultation with representatives of that context, design something for that new market.
