Manufacturing is intrinsic to design – without an understanding of basic manufacturing principles such as how materials are processed, which materials provide what properties, etc., it is impossible to produce a considered design response to a problem.

This subject aims to introduce major processes and materials, to involve students in design projects that demand material and process considerations. Students should develop insight into how materials behave and how information and understanding is used to guide design, decision-making can bring greater depth to the design process.
