This subject introduces students to the legal issues surrounding new forms of commerce that have emerged as a result of new communications technologies. The subject focuses on the challenges to current legal doctrines and categories flowing from the phenomenal spread of digital technologies and electronic commerce, in particular, laws and policies surrounding regulation of communications, intellectual property, the law of contract and tort. The subject aims to provide both an insight into the challenges facing the legal system, as well as a practical guide for those wishing to do business electronically.
