This subject covers advanced techniques for modelling, analysis and design of systems suited to robust multivariable, adaptive or optimal control. Project work is conducted on a continuous basis throughout the semester. Topics include direct and inverse Nyquist arrays, characteristic locus, robust control, pole shifting techniques, identification algorithms, minimum variance control, self-tuning adaptive regulator, linear quadratic regulator design, state estimation and the Kalman filter.
Assessment: This subject is assessed through assignments, laboratory work and a project with an oral presentation.
