27141 Sport Tourism

6cp
Undergraduate
Subject coordinator: Hazel Maxwell

The subject examines concepts and practices that underpin the symbiotic relationship between sport and tourism. This includes sport as an active endeavour for tourists, as well as sport as a commodity for witness and consumption by audiences. Students develop an understanding of management, policy and delivery issues in two of the world's largest and fastest growing industries, and how they combine today. Interplays between sport tourism and the economy, sociocultural dynamics, the environment, urban development and public policy are thus critically investigated. The subject also includes discussion of cultural variations in sport and tourism, contemporary developments and likely trends in the future of sport tourism.
