21865 Organisational Analysis and Design: Concepts and Applications

6cp
Postgraduate

This subject introduces the concept of organisational design and problem solving. The subject, designed for students with limited work experience, places an emphasis on developing knowledge that would otherwise be gained in the workplace. Topics covered include an analysis of possible forms of organisational dysfunction arising from structure, controls and coordination, human resources, power, politics and cultural differences. Using the technique of reframing, students appreciate how cognitive frameworks affect the interpretations which organisational actors place upon situations which confront them, and the way in which more effective actions emerge from consideration of multiple cognitive frameworks.
