This subject provides an introduction to hydraulic, mechanical, vertical transportation, and fire protection services and systems, covering terminology, design and construction requirements. It also includes an introduction to intelligent buildings and an in-depth study of coordination, integration, installation and inspection of services, and safety and access requirements.
Assessment: Students must achieve a minimum of 40 per cent of the marks in each of the four components of the subject with an average of 50 per cent or more overall to successfully complete the subject.
The four components and the weighted percentage of each are: hydraulics services (25 per cent); fire services (25 per cent); electrical services (25 per cent); mechanical services (25 per cent).
For each component, each 25 per cent includes the final exam (15 per cent) and an assignment (10 per cent). Students failing to meet the above criteria will have to repeat the entire subject (NOT only the failed component), which means that no exemption is given for individual components.
