Topics covered include comparison of project-based organisations and organisations structured using classical management theories, governance of project-based organisations at three levels — board, program and portfolio, and project — to ensure that the organisation has the competence to undertake its projects, operational control and governance of projects using hybrid mechanisms including the roles of the broker and the steward, governance of the project-based organisation as defined by the principles and practices of the Association of Project Managers (UK), organisational capability to deliver projects successfully, organic approaches to innovation and new approaches to knowledge management practices to serve the transient nature of projects and intuitive and organic human resource management practices to develop people of appropriate competence to manage projects. In the information age, the project-based organisation is becoming the norm rather than the exception, and so an increasing number of managers face these issues
