11296 Architectural Experience C
6cpUndergraduate
This subject is one of four that together form the Architectural Practice Electives. Electives A and B examine the way in which the broader industry and social context influences the 'character' and 'form' of architectural practice. Electives C and D examine how the practice of architecture can be better facilitated through an understanding from within the profession context.
Architectural Practice C requires students to investigate and reflect upon the processes involved in the delivery of an architectural project from procurement to completion. Students must demonstrate an understanding of the stages of this process as well as the associated professional requirements and the contingencies that influence it. The sharing of practical workplace experiences across a range of project types will enable students to be aware of the various options available in this process and a capacity to anticipate future workplace experiences.
Students can develop individual research projects either in a normative or speculative framework but they must address issues extracted from the workplace. Participation in the subject is not restricted to a specific building scales or typology, however, students should have experience working on the design, documentation or administration of a project. It is therefore mandatory that students undertaking this subject are employed in a registered architectural practice. Student's participation in the subject will be assessed and approved by the subject coordinator at the beginning of the semester.
