Requisite(s): 024211 English Education 1
Undergraduate

English Education 2 continues students' learning about literacy which commenced in English Education 1. The focus is on the teaching of both reading and writing. Knowledge, skills and strategies needed to teach children to read and write and to use reading and writing as a useful, enjoyable part of their lives is covered. However, the teaching of reading and writing is an immense and complex field which cannot be fully covered in one semester so students need to devote time, outside of class hours, to reading, thinking, discussing and observing in order to feel confident that they can teach reading and writing effectively. Students need to draw on tutorial information, classroom-based observations and experiences, reference material (books and journals), resource material (kits, videos, programs, children's literature) and discussions with colleagues in order to develop a comprehensive view of the teaching of reading and writing and their inherent issues.
