016013 Assessing Learning in Context

This subject addresses the nine key questions that inform this inquiry-based curriculum. It is concerned with exploring the complexities of how to effectively assess learning in vocational, workplace and community contexts. The main focus is on establishing how we know that individual and organisational learning needs have been met. Participants examine issues such as how to assess learning 'on-the-job' and explore how the diverse backgrounds of learners affect the assessment process. The nine key questions that form the core of this course are used to develop an inquiry-based approach to assessing learning in various workplace and community settings. A number of perspectives, including educational and organisational psychology, sociology and cultural theory are used to analyse a Critical Incident from the participant's professional practice which is developed during the subject.
