013970 Using Information Technology for Learning

This subject introduces participants to an understanding of information technology and computer systems as they apply to educational and human resources development contexts. On completion of this subject students should be able to effectively use computers and other information technologies in educational and training contexts to solve and document relevant problems. The understanding and skills developed in this subject are designed to promote confidence in the operation of computer hardware and software.

This subject covers the educational use of computers in the application areas of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, multimedia and communication. This subject also focuses on the development of information literacy. Information literacy is related to information technology skills but is broader in its application. It furnishes the basis for life-long learning and is common to all contexts of teaching and learning at all levels of education.
