This subject provides a basic understanding of the operational requirements, issues and evaluation methods involved in leisure and fitness centre management. It is of interest to those students aiming to pursue careers in sports administration and commercial leisure services.
Subject objectives/outcomes
On successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic operational requirements involved in the management of leisure and fitness centres.
- Identify the positioning of leisure and fitness centres within the wider leisure market and understand the various demands of this market.
- Develop strategies for the effective management of leisure and fitness centres.

This subject assists students in developing their awareness of the management practices and operational requirements of leisure and fitness facilities. The subject equips students with an understanding of operational considerations, current industry trends and related management practice in a range of facility types and settings.

Examinations will be conducted under University examination conditions, and hence thoroughly address concerns regarding secure assessment. The report and presentation will be secure through a combination of continual updating of assessment across semesters, multiple topic choice within semesters and/or plagiarism detection software. Further, a statement of independent work is included on every assignment cover sheet.
