This subject assists in developing advanced skills in research methods that can be employed in marketing and other related fields. It helps students appreciate and acquire cutting edge competencies that are necessary to gaining knowledge with respect to marketing theory and practice. The subject is particularly beneficial to students planning careers that require sophisticated research competencies in marketing and other related fields.

Subject objectives/outcomes

On successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate ability to interpret critically and report concisely the results of various analyses within appropriate theoretical frameworks.
  2. Demonstrate ability to work rigorously with the data and theoretical frameworks used in their research project.
  3. Develop prudently and communicate in-depth marketing theory.
  4. Understand thoroughly and apply critically conceptual approaches to theory building and testing in marketing.

Teaching and learning strategies

The subject will be taught using a seminar-style format. The structure will vary slightly depending upon the material to be covered. Seminar sessions will usually comprise of presentation of theoretical underpinnings of various research methods and interpretation of data analysis results.

Content

This subject builds on the subjects Quantitative Methodologies for Research and Qualitative Methodologies for Research as well as Scientific Theory for Research. Advancing the knowledge and skills developed in these prerequisites, a set of cutting edge topics will be tailored to suit the individual student's needs. Exemplary topics from which a set would be customised include:

  • PLS Path Modelling & Finite Mixture Modelling
  • Measurement Model Evaluations & Tetrad Analysis
  • Discrete Choice Modelling
  • Advanced Qualitative Methods

Written Report – Advanced Methodologies (Individual)50%
Addresses objectives 1 and 2.

To pass the subject, students must achieve at least 50% of the final overall grade.
