This subject deals with the laws and institutions of this supra-rational organisation. Topics to be discussed include the activities of the European institutions; the political and economic origins of the EU and its institutional structures (with emphasis on the European Court of Justice); the inter-relationship between community law and the law of the member states; and the free movement of goods, workers, capital and services.
The subject concentrates on the emerging transnational protection of social and economic rights and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice.
