59305 English for Academic Purposes 2

6cp; availability: undergraduate international, exchange or Study Abroad students

This is the second of a sequence of two subjects created for international students. The aim of these subjects is to ensure that students' language and study skills have developed sufficiently to enable them to successfully participate in classes alongside other UTS students.

The subjects focus on developing the language and learning skills required for tertiary study in Australia. They integrate the four macro-skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – into a thematic approach that looks at indigenous issues in Australian culture and society. Students take a critical/analytical approach to understanding and producing written and spoken texts appropriate for an Australian tertiary context. The major assignment is a report.
