This subject introduces students to the analysis of continuous PSC beams, taking account of hyperstatic reactions, moments and shears, and how to incorporate these into design for ultimate moment, shear and strength at transfer in accordance with AS 3600. Then the effect of varying concordant profiles is also considered.
The analysis and design of continuous flat slabs and punching shear (with and without drop panels) is covered, taking account of hyperstatic reactions, moments and shears, and the eccentricity of the prestressing force at the drop panels.
Further, the design of tension members, end block reinforcement and the calculation of prestress losses is covered. Design of prestressed compression members and design for torsion may be covered.
Assessment: Early revision quiz (5 per cent), assignments (30 per cent), mid-semester exam (30 per cent), final exam (35 per cent).
