This subject covers the principles and applications of wireless and cellular telecommunication networks, and their integration with the Internet. Various wireless network technologies (WiMAX, IEEE 802.11, Zigbee, Bluetooth), and cellular network technologies (GSM, UMTS, 4G) are introduced. The emphasis is on the concepts, infrastructure and protocols for supporting device/user mobility.
The subject also introduces techniques for developing applications for small mobile devices, and a small hands-on mobile application project at the end of the subject consolidates the learning the student has achieved.
