The Faculty's teaching strategy consists of a commitment to the creation of a learning environment where:

  • students are motivated to want to learn
  • students learn both in groups and independently
  • students learn using a combination of theoretical and practical applications
  • students adopt a scholarly approach to their studies
  • students emulate practice
  • students learn from feedback on exams, assignments and general performance, and
  • research and writing skills are promoted.

Students learn from highly accomplished and motivated staff, student readers, workbooks and texts where appropriate.

  • Kyushu Institute of Design (Japan)
  • Fachhochschule Vorarlberg GmBH (Austria)
  • Fachhochschule Hannover; Fachhochschule Wiesbaden (Germany)

DABism – DAB International Student Mentor Program

Entering a university for the first time can be a daunting and at times confusing experience. For international students, the first year in a new university and a new country is a time of adaptation socially, culturally and academically. So we created DABism, the Faculty's own international student mentoring program.

Through this program international students benefit from the experience of students who are presently studying the same course. They can ask their mentor about the problems they had when they first started university, what subjects are good to pick, or projects within subjects, and generally get a run down on the course they have chosen to study.

Cross-faculty courses

The Master of Animation (C04212) is a cross-faculty course incorporating the teaching strengths of the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building; the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; and the Faculty of Information Technology.
