Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Mathematical Sciences has been developed in response to a demand for short courses in mathematics, statistics, operations research and computational mathematics. It provides those employed in industry with access to additional training or retraining in quantitative disciplines. The course structure is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of students.

Course aims

The Graduate Certificate is designed to introduce or extend mathematical understanding in an area of interest or application.

Additional admission requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree or tertiary qualification from UTS or other recognised institution and are expected to have a background equivalent to first-year university mathematics and/or statistics. Applicants who do not possess such qualifications are considered on an individual basis.

Additional assumed knowledge

Students are expected to have some statistical and/or mathematical background.

Course duration and attendance

The course is offered on a part-time basis over one or two semesters.

In general, part-time enrolment requires attendance at the City campus, Broadway, for up to eight hours per week. The exact times depend on the particular choice of subjects. Part-time students should be aware that attendance at daytime classes might be unavoidable.

Course structure

The course has a flexible structure with a wide range of subjects in the mathematical sciences. Students may undertake any sequence of subjects offered by the Department with a total value of 12 credit points, provided that individual subject prerequisites are satisfied.

Course completion requirements
