Message from the Dean

Welcome to UTS:Business - Forward thinking, work ready.

UTS:Business is justifiably proud of its achievements. In 2006, the Faculty was accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The Faculty now joins an elite group of 10 per cent of the world's business schools in being accredited by this prestigious organisation. This accreditation demonstrates the Faculty's commitment to continuous improvement and its desire to benchmark its programs in accordance with international standards.

In 2006, UTS:Business was ranked in the top eight business schools in Australia for its international standing and research, and teaching performance by the Melbourne University Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research Rankings. Further, the Faculty was ranked, with five other universities, in the top tier of business/economics faculties by the Australian Government Learning and Teaching Performance Fund in 2007.

The Faculty offers an extensive range of programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It also offers an extensive range of executive short courses. As one of the largest business faculties in Australia, UTS:Business offers the resources of five discipline-based teaching schools in the areas of accounting; finance and economics; leisure, sport and tourism; management; and marketing. Additionally, the Graduate School of Business administers all postgraduate studies.

Approximately 9,000 students (1,900 of whom are international students) are enrolled in the Faculty's courses. This accounts for some 30 per cent of the UTS student population.

The Faculty has a reputation for delivering high-quality educational programs that combine academic rigour with practical relevance. The Faculty's lecturers bring insights gained through their distinguished academic and research backgrounds, as consultants to business and government, and as scholars who continue to receive a high number of grants and industry funding for projects, thus ensuring that leading-edge knowledge is passed on to their students.

The Faculty's established partnerships with industry, the business professions and other academic institutions, both in Australia and overseas, offer students the opportunity for research, international exchange and work experience. The Faculty also offers students flexibility of choice in course subjects and attendance patterns, and the option of taking subjects during Summer session to fast-track their course.

UTS:Business is centrally located in Haymarket, close to public transport, and also on the attractive Kuring-gai campus at Lindfield on Sydney's North Shore.

We wish you every success with your studies and trust your time at UTS:Business will be a rewarding experience.

Professor Rob Lynch, Dean
