97803 Italian Language and Culture 3

8cp; 4hpw

Requisite(s): 97802 Italian Language and Culture 2

This subject is designed for students at the 'lower intermediate' level of competence in Italian language and culture. It builds further on the linguistic and cultural capabilities and general language learning strategies acquired through prior exposure to the Italian language, or through Italian 2. Upon successful completion of the subject, students are able to understand the main points of standard Italian spoken utterances and written texts on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They can also deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. In both speech and writing, they are able to produce simple connected discourse on familiar topics, describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. They can also use their knowledge of the Italian culture in the development of communication skills.

Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline, distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
