The subject is designed to further consolidate and improve students' already advanced skills of aural comprehension and oral performance and reading and writing in demanding and complex situations in a German-speaking context. It aims to provide students with the linguistic skills to engage more confidently in a German-speaking university environment. The subject assumes sound knowledge of more advanced German grammar and enables students to reach new levels of complexity and variety, particularly with verbal structures, as well as gain deeper understanding of linguistic register. By the end of the subject, students are expected to have attained the communicative competence required to satisfy complex social and professional needs in speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and further developed their understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which the language is used. Students expand their ability to understand the specific content of sophisticated media and academic texts dealing with topics such as multiculturalism, national identity and the history of languages.

Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline, distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
