This subject enables students to meet their communication needs in everyday social interactions in German, not only by developing skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing German, but also by developing an understanding of the cultures of German-speaking countries. Students gain an understandng of written texts such as newspaper and magazine articles, a German novel and an autobiography. These texts will also be used as topics for discussion to develop students' listening and speaking skills in German. Students also learn to produce written texts such as a diary and a short essay. They also increase their understanding of current affairs in German-speaking countries through watching and discussing German-language videos and TV programs.

Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
