Japanese 4 is designed for students who have completed Japanese 3 or its equivalent. In this subject students consolidate their skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. It is designed to broaden students' knowledge of Japanese language and culture. Upon completion of this subject students should be able to interact in limited social, academic and work contexts with Japanese speakers. By the end of Japanese 4 students are expected to be able to read and write approximately 350 kanji. The learning of the sociocultural use of the language is an integral part of this subject. Students are also required to use a range of resources that facilitate independent language learning.
Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
