This subject aims to develop knowledge and understanding of cancer nursing practice in relation to the management of individuals with cancer and their families in hospitals and in their homes. The subject explores the current knowledge and understanding of the principles of cancer control, pathology, diagnosis, staging, surgical oncology, radiotherapy, cytotoxic-chemotherapy, and some innovative practices of clinical trials in relation to nursing practice. Aspects of genetic testing, prognostication and treatments is touched upon, as are complementary alternative medicines. This subject also explores the meanings of signs and symptoms, and how these may be related to disease processes, expected treatment side effects and unwanted treatment complications associated with the complexity of the patient's ill health.
