The subject introduces students to the professional practice of midwifery. It explores the development of midwifery from its folk beginnings, through its professionalisation to its current standing. The subject explores the types of knowing that contribute to the midwifery body of knowledge and how these different forms of knowledge are played out in practice. It introduces students to the major philosophical positions that inform current midwifery practice. The subject includes the development of academic skills required by an undergraduate student.
