The primary focus of this subject is on developing an understanding of the processes that structure marine communities dominated by invertebrates. The subject material enhances previous work in experimental design and focuses on interactions between the various elements of marine communities. This subject augments other subjects in the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology which focus on fish, marine primary producers and coastal management.

Experimental work is conducted in the field on a seven-day excursion at a site near Sydney.
