This subject is specifically designed for students majoring in Environmental Engineering, though students from non-science disciplines are also encouraged to enrol. Areas of study include structure and function of cells; cell division and the role of genetic material in cell function; concept of species; diversity of living organisms, their classification, distinguishing characteristics of plants, animals and micro-organisms, and their economic, medical and ecological importance; physiology of higher plants and mammals and the effects of environmental pollution and disturbance; principles of population and community ecology, and structure and function of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems; and effects of human impacts on natural ecosystems and their management.
Autumn semester, City campus
