88506 Textiles: Surface Form
6cp;
3hpwUndergraduateSubject coordinator: Cecilia Heffer
This subject addresses the treatment of surface techniques applied to a variety of fabric types, e.g. how a flat surface is transformed into a three-dimensional form. Techniques include a thermoplastic process whereby synthetics can be permanently pleated and sculpted to create a raised surface. Traditional hand felting is investigated in a contemporary way and three-dimensional forms are also explored within this technique. Other avenues of experimentation include fabric manipulation such as construction and deconstruction of cloth. Students develop projects using techniques explored in a workshop and studio environment, and by applying their investigation and research into contemporary professional design practice.
