Postgraduate
This subject describes and analyses all recent developments in federal labour regulation and places them within a critical framework. The subject covers recent developments in the areas of workplace agreements, the award jurisdiction and unfair dismissal. The institutional arrangements for the agreements, awards and minimum entitlements are covered in full. Rights of entry, freedom of association and the constitutional framework of Australian labour laws are all covered as topics, as are a range of philosophical approaches to employment regulation.
Topics discussed include:
- the Electrolux Case and 'Matters Pertaining'
- unfair dismissal (after 27 March 2006)
- new jurisdictions: Australian Industrial Relations Commission, Office of Employment Advocate and Australian Fair Pay Commission
- the work/life balance: what assistance is Work Choices?
- trends in workforce participation: is regulation keeping up?
