This subject introduces students to important recent developments in six major areas of American law: Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, American Indian Law, Criminal Law, Contracts, and Torts. It focuses principally on legal questions that have become unusually controversial in the United States, as well as on the underlying political, economic and social tensions from which those questions arise.
Assessment: Class attendance and participation (20 per cent) and a final exam (80 per cent)
