Students of this subject survey the contemporary situation of human rights in a number of different Asian countries, including the PRC, and countries of South and South-East Asia. There are a number of themes, including cultural, economic and religious attitudes which affect the exercise of human rights, the rights of workers, women and children and the rights of minorities and indigenous people. The effect of international instruments and treaties and current efforts to improve the human rights of people in various Asian countries are also considered.
Assessment: Class presentation (20 per cent), research essay (50 per cent), class presentation and mini essay (30 per cent)
