This subject studies the scholarship and skills required for the understanding and application of theories and concepts of a 'systems' approach to the analysis or organisational conflict, the processes of diagnosis of, and intervention in, organisational conflicts, and the design of integrated organisational conflict management systems. It looks at conflict cultures in organisations including professional, religious and not-for-profit organisations, health services, aged care and palliative care systems.

Areas considered include:

  • family systems theory of organisational conflict
  • bullying and other unethical behaviours, and building an ethical organisation
  • leadership successes and failures
  • working within a legislative framework for conflict resolution in organisational conflicts, and
  • designing integrated conflict-management systems and protocols.

Assessment: Attendance and participation in the intensive block and seminar day (15 per cent), preparation of a book critique and leading a discussion of the book critique on the seminar day (25 per cent), and a paper (60 per cent).
