This elective subject provides an avenue for specialisation in refugee law and practice. It draws on the practical expertise of international lawyers, leading refugee law practitioners, immigration officers and review decision makers to present a structured and practical focus on refugee law and practice in the Australian context. The subject deals with practical issues concerning Australia's international obligations towards refugees and a systematic study of the procedural requirements for dealing with refugee applications and techniques for making effective oral and written submissions in refugee applications.
