Postgraduate
Subject coordinator: L Greentree

This subject studies the scholarship, strategies and skills that are required for managing the resolution of disputes in the public arena, that is, disputes that impact upon society or the community at large, whether by nature of the group or organisation within which the dispute is occurring, or the nature of the issues that are involved in the disputes, or both.

Areas considered include:

  • the processes of investigation and identification of issues and the parties
  • identification of the appropriate dispute resolution process(es)
  • preparation and management of multi-party disputes generally
  • disputes concerning environmental and similar issues, and
  • issues of social and community concerns, ethics and values.

In the development of the student's practical skills, the intensive mode classes explore strategies that can be used for policy development and for use where public interest groups are involved.

Assessment includes a written research paper and seminar presentation.
