This subject introduces students to the skills and awareness that together form the professional persona of an effective legal practitioner. The legal skills component covers such skills as interviewing and advising, writing, drafting and negotiation. A lawyer's most valuable tool is the ability to communicate effectively. The awareness component covers the areas of human behaviour and practices that a lawyer needs to be sensitive to in order to be an effective practitioner. These include work management, legal aid, access to justice, and disability and EEO issues.
Assessment: Attendance and participation in a negotiation, attendance and participation in a client interview, five web-based activities.
