In this subject students develop an understanding of the concept of personal property in relation to a variety of commercial transactions. Topics covered include classifications of personal property, choses in action and choses in possession; acquisition of title to goods; law of bailment; insurance; securities interests in chattels; and law of negotiable instruments, with particular reference to cheques.
The course also examines statutory regulation of transactions including sale of goods, consumer protection and product liability. Students are also introduced to intellectual property concepts.
