Study in this subject is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for research in physics. The principal activity is an individual research project in which the student, under supervision, plans and undertakes investigations in an area of interest. The data collected is then subjected to analysis and interpretation under the guidance of the supervisor. Students learn to define objectives and aims, work to available time and resources, use appropriate research methods, critically assess information and develop complex arguments in detail. The findings of the research project are presented in a structured and integrated thesis, which comprises the main assessment component.
