over 10 weeks
This is an integrated subject offered by the ELSSA Centre in consultation with a Faculty to develop and enhance students' academic literacy and oracy skills within the context of the particular discipline area. Within this framework, content encompasses critical reading within the discourse of the discipline and profession, writing for academic and professional purposes in a range of discipline-specific genres, speaking and listening in the contexts of tertiary study, and critical thinking across a diverse range of resources. The specific focus in a given semester depends on the requirements of faculties to ensure the relevance and applicability of the tasks, and upon a thorough analysis of students' needs, interests and competencies in a range of academic language and learning tasks.
