Requisite(s): 120 credit points of completed study in C10061 Bachelor of Engineering Diploma in Engineering Practice OR 120 credit points of completed study in C10066 Bachelor of Engineering Science OR 120 credit points of completed study in C10067 Bachelor of Engineering
These requisites may not apply to students in certain courses.
There are also course requisites for this subject. See access conditions.
The subject introduces students to the plastic analysis of statically indeterminate continuous steel beams and of simple frames and the consequent design requirements for strength of AS 4100.
Students are also taught the analysis and design of composite steel and concrete beams to AS 2327.1 Composite Structures, Part 1: Simply Supported Beams; of concrete slabs acting compositely with profiled permanent steel formwork, with some reference to AS 4600 Cold Formed Steel Structures; and a brief introduction to the analysis and design of composite continuous beams, composite columns and composite connections.
Further, there may be an introduction to structural steel design for torsion and of crane runway girders.
Assessment: Early revision quiz (5 per cent), plastic design project (20 per cent), plastic design quiz (20 per cent), composite design project (25 per cent), exam (predominantly on composite design) (30 per cent).
Spring semester, City campus
This subject is offered in odd years only; it will next be offered in 2007.
