There are a number of special course subjects which provide flexibility in a student's education in one or more of the following ways:
- credit can be gained by completing one or more short courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering or from other approved providers
- students can complete one or more special projects supervised by a member of academic staff of the Faculty and specified in a learning contract that is signed by the student, the supervisor and the coordinator for graduate and special projects
- students may need to enrol in less than a full 6-credit-point subject if electives from other faculties are completed that are, for example, 8 or 9 credit points. In such cases, a small project is identified and completed to make up the required credit points.
In each case, enrolment in any special course subject requires the approval of the Director, Postgraduate Coursework Programs in the Faculty of Engineering, and the student must be able to demonstrate a need that is consistent with the other requirements of the student's course or program.
