Requisite(s): 48650 Mechanical and Manufacturing Design
Fields of practice: Mechanical Engineering program
Undergraduate
Subject coordinator: Dr Jafar Madadnia
This subject aims to extend students' competence in the design of engineering systems and components, as well as familiarising them with modern methodologies. While emphasis is on realistic mechanical and structural systems, elements of mechatronic components and systems are also incorporated. The subject also aims to enhance students' capability in dealing with other important aspects of the design process like sustainability, intellectual rights and ethics. Topics include Engineering System Design, Intellectual Property, Design Methodology and Engineering Best Practice, Materials Science for Engineers, Structural and Mechanical Design, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Design, Mechatronic and Electro-Mechanical Design, and Probabilistic Design.
Assessment: Typically assessment for this subject involves a combination of assignments and project work.
