This subject is based around the analysis of the formation of the city, including interrelationship between geography, layout, landscape of public works, subdivision and building types. It includes a survey of the changes in the city plan across time, analysis of the city centre and suburbs, a review and critique of histories and theories of urban design, urban history and the architecture of the city. It also comprises an introduction to the work of key architects and their contribution to the architecture of the city.
