11212 Precedents and Precursors in Architectural History

The subject covers foundational themes in architectural history until the beginning of the twentieth century, selected from the following: ideas of architectural origins in classical antiquity; theories and applications of geometry, composition, proportion, order and harmony; relations between antiquity and the Renaissance; the development and use of different forms of representation, including perspective; the architect as historical figure; the role and influence of architectural treatises; ideas that underpin the writing of architectural history; the historical development of architectural theory; cultural encounters between East and West and their impact on architecture.
