Overview

This course is designed for graduates and experienced professionals who want to upgrade their qualifications and skills to service clients better and keep pace with employer expectations and industry change.

The UTS Project Management program is recognised as a worldwide leader in project management education. The function of project management is such that substantial work experience can provide a sound basis for formal study. The Project Management program is thus designed for professional project managers who wish to build on their knowledge base but who may lack formal qualifications.

The learning program emphasises the systemic and holistic nature of project management, with particular emphasis on the management of complex projects within ambiguous and high-risk environments.

Course aims

This course provides a comprehensive grounding in both the underlying principles and practical aspects of project management, and addresses the Australian National Competency Standards for Project Management and PMBOK® (Project Management Body of Knowledge) Guide.

Delivered through intensive workshops, which include simulations and case studies, together with work-related assignments, the courses in the Project Management program focus on the project lifecycle and key project management functions for application across a wide range of industry sectors.

The Project Management program is generic. Students come from many discipline backgrounds, ranging from IT, banking and finance, health and local government to construction and engineering.

Career options

Project Management is one of the fastest growing of the global professional disciplines. Career options include positions in banking and finance, construction, engineering, health, IT and local government, both locally and internationally.

Articulation

The course may be taken as a separate award or articulate to, and form part of, the Master of Project Management (C04006). The Project Management program structure allows students a choice of entry requirements and study paths leading to the award of Graduate Certificate (24 credit points), Graduate Diploma (C07004) (48 credit points), Master of Project Management (C04006) (72 credit points), and Master of Business Administration (Project Management major) (C04014) (96 credit points). Each stage is self-contained and can be undertaken through part-time or full-time study.

Additional admission requirements

In recognition of the intensely practice-based nature of the discipline, applicants without a Bachelor's degree but who have at least 10 years' professional experience and/or a recognised professional qualification are considered for the course.

Graduates from any discipline may be accepted for enrolment.

Additional recognition of prior learning

Applicants with a cognate four-year degree may be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.

Course duration and attendance

The Graduate Certificate is offered on a one-semester, full-time, or one-year, part-time basis.
