Overview

This course is offered jointly by the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Education. The first three years of the degree comprise the Bachelor of Arts in Human Movement Studies and the fourth year comprises the Graduate Diploma in Education.

This course is designed for students wishing to undertake a career in teaching personal development, health and physical education in private or public schools. Students also have the option of graduating after three years to pursue careers in sport and exercise science.

Course aims

The Bachelor of Arts in Human Movement Studies aims to provide graduates with a strong understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying human movement, with a focus on the role of physical activity in the enhancement of human performance in occupational, educational, sport, exercise and leisure settings.

Career options

Career options include facility management, fitness and corporate health management and consultancy, teaching personal development, health, physical education and outdoor education (with Grad Dip Ed) and sport coaching.

Additional assumed knowledge

Mathematics and any two units of English.

Additional recognition of prior learning

After admission, students may apply for recogition of prior learning in subjects in which they consider themselves eligible. Equivalence of subject matter is the main criterion for the award of recognition of prior learning in a subject successfully completed at another institution.

Course duration and attendance

This course is offered on a full-time basis only. The normal completion time is three years for the Bachelor of Arts in Human Movement Studies, and one additional year for the Graduate Diploma in Education. Students may be required to attend evening classes. The course is offered at Kuring-gai campus only.

Course structure

Students must complete at least 144 credit points over 24 subjects for the Bachelor of Arts in Human Movement Studies. They then have the option of completing a fourth year to obtain the Graduate Diploma in Education, requiring a further 48 credit points of study.

Industrial training/professional practice

The course has an extensive industry based internship program providing graduates with work ready professional skills.
