This subject is designed to provide students who have no difficulty in understanding and writing French with proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing in the language. The subject allows for an understanding of the sociocultural context in which the language is used. Students gain a good understanding of the different styles of language, ranging from colloquialisms to formal speech. They learn to express themselves fluently and to participate in debates and discussions on cultural and sociopolitical issues. They also learn to write complex reports and articles utilising appropriate writing strategies. Students are required to read extensively in preparation for classroom presentations and discussions.

Assessment: This subject has a combination of continuous assessment and final examinations for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Further details are available in the subject outline distributed in class during the first week of teaching.
