88610 Design and Sustainable Human Futures 4

6cp
Requisite(s): 88510 Design and Sustainable Human Futures 3
Undergraduate

Continuing the prerequisite subject, this subject examines how human technology is overtaking evolution. Significant change is occuring so rapidly in most evolutionary lineages that humans no longer live within evolution, they are becoming the dominant drivers of it. The logical consequence would seem to be that humans should now guide evolution. In this subject students examine how more holistic or synthetic methodologies than those traditionally used in design practice can be used to evaluate the evolutionary implications of incoming technologies. The examination draws on emerging literatures at the interface of design and guided evolution.
