88406 Textile 2: Alchemy
6cpUndergraduate
In this subject, students explore the field of dyed textiles and gain a knowledge of specific dyes for different fibre types. Students are encouraged to experiment with some of the most ancient forms of dyestuff and mordant, such as alum, tannin and metal salts. Students also experiment with indigo and disperse dyes. Traditional Shibori techniques which include tying, stitching, pole wrapping, clamping and folding form the basis of the textile process.
